We are delighted to share two recent achievements by IQG member Dr. Wolfgang Wieland: During the international Loops ’26 conference in Hangzhou (China) earlier this year, he received the Ashtekar-Award of the International Society on Loop Quantum Gravity (ISLQG) for his excellence in LQG-related research, quality of supervising/mentoring and service to the LQG community. Additionally, Wolfgang was awarded in August 2026 an individual 3-year research grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) – German Research Foundation. The grant follows on from his previous DFG Heisenberg Fellowship. It will support his research team at the Institute for Quantum Gravity in carrying out fundamental physics research on local subsystems in quantum gravity.
Congratulations, Wolfgang and continued success for the work ahead!
