Effective formulations for (canonical) Quantum Theories

Canonical effective equations provide a powerful tool of describing quantum systems. Apart from being useful in deriving several well known results in Quantum Field Theories, they also come to the rescue when conventional methods fail. In the context of gravity, we need extensions beyond standard effective actions to accommodate several issues, for instance a more general non-gaussian state as the expansion basis or a deformed version of general covariance. In this talk, I shall illustrate the use of such methods through specific examples for spherical gravity, quantum cosmology and non-associative quantum mechanics.
